Global Warming Debated
The study, which was conducted by the World Meteorological Organization, states that global warming is alive and well and that it shows no signs of slowing down.
According to the World Meteorological Organization’s analysis, the decade that’s just a few weeks away from ending has been the warmest ten-year period in modern history.
Modern temperature records are available as far back as 150 years ago, and the study shows that temperatures have steadily risen every decade since records started being kept.
The study observes that the time period from 2000 to 2009 was warmer than the 1990s, which were warmer than the 1980s and so on. This observation likely means that the world currently has a higher temperature than in the entire history of its existence.
Similar studies conducted by both NASA and the National Climatic Data Center in the United States yield very similar data to the World Meteorological Organization’s results.
The World Meteorological Organization’s collected information says that so far, 2009 is the fifth warmest year on record. While this information is not definite due to the fact that several weeks are still left in the calendar year, it could be a strong argument as world leaders argue about whether reducing greenhouse emissions is necessary.
The World Meteorological Organization made the announcement of its study after the United States Environmental Protection Agency announced plans to create federal limits to the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases produced in America.
