Sarah Palin Blasts Newsweek
An angry Sarah Palin blasted Newsweek Magazine for its choice of cover photo of her in the the magazine’s latest issue. Originally used for a story in Runner’s World magazine, the photo featured Ms. Palin wearing short runner’s shorts. One can easily understand the former Republican vice-presidential nominee’s position.
The photo of Sarah Palin used on the cover of Newsweek Magazine was originally used in the August 2009 of the the running magazine. That article titled “I”m a Runner” was a story covering Ms. Palin’s love of the sport and featured multiple slides of the former Alaska governor in appropriate sporty attire.
In a Facebook posting last night, Sarah Palin wrote “”The choice of photo for the cover of this week’s Newsweek is unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this “news” magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The Runner’s World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken was all about health and fitness — a subject to which I am devoted and which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention — even if out of context.”
Supporters of Ms. Palin are also outraged. Those who oppose her are understandably pleased. Yet, Ms. Palin has consistently fought the good fight and most often comes out on top rather than on the losing side. There is a saying in entertainment that can be applied to politics as well – Any publicity is good publicity. Liberal Newsweek Magazine, by railing against Sarah Palin is unwittingly energizing her supporters as well as the GOP in general.
Another good conservative vs liberal fight is brewing. 2012 cannot come soon enough.
