Jobs: Which Ones Beat The Recession?

What are the hottest jobs today during the recession? Can you still get your foot in while the ground is hot?

While there are no such things as “recession proof” jobs, there certainly jobs which have not been on the receiving end of mass layoffs during the current great recession. During this period over 6 million jobs have been lost. While the indicators are clearly there that our economy is on the upswing, one thing is certain – economic periods run in cycles.

What goes up must come down. No matter how good or how long of a sustained rebound and period of economic prosperity we might experience – an eventual correction in the economy at a future time is inevitable and unavoidable. You and your loved ones can guard against the next downturn in the economy by wisely choosing to work in a career and industry that has shown the ability to weather economic storms.

So let’s get down to it. Which are these jobs that can do well during good and bad economic times?

Medical Jobs: Whether the economy is good, bad or downright ugly – people have a need for medical care. Currently there is a shortage of qualified workers to fill jobs in the medical field. Registered nurses and pharmacy technicians are particularly in demand today. Expected job growth for RN’s through 2016: 23.5%. Expected job growth for pharmacy technicians through 2016: 32%.

IT Jobs: Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts are very much in demand as industry, commerce and life in general today moves towards a completely information-based society. Expected job growth in these fields through 2016: 53.4%

Education Jobs: Teacher, post-secondary. As the U.S. population continues to grow, that means more students going through the education system and thus the need for more qualified teachers. Expected job growth through 2016: 23%.

Other jobs that have a knack for beating the recession include: Law Enforcement, Public Relations, and Insurance Sales.
