Latest FDA Food Recalls
The voluntary recall of a half a million pounds of beef was announced on Monday. The meat may potentially be contaminated with a bacteria linked to two deaths, according to producer Fairfax Farms.
The recall began on Saturday. It affects more than 545 thousand pounds of ground beef which was produced between September 14th and September 16th. “Any customers from northeastern or mid-Atlantic states who have identified recalled ground beef products should remove the product from their freezers and return it to their stores for full reimbursement,” said the company.
CEO Ron Allen said in a news release, “We’re assisting our customers in conducting this recall, and continue to urge consumers to check their freezers for ground beef products that are listed in the recall. Consumers who identify these products should return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.”
In other food recall news, Alexia Foods announced the nationwide allergy alert and recall of its Alexia Olive Oil, Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Pesto Oven Reds frozen potatoes due to undeclared pine nut allergen. The voluntary recall was made in conjunction with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pine nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these.
The product was distributed to retail stores nationwide.
This voluntary recall is limited to only packages of Alexia – Olive Oil, Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Pesto Oven Reds bearing the following Sell By dates:

These dates are printed on the upper left back panel of the poly package with the UPC # 34183 00108. No other Alexia frozen or shelf stable products are affected.
