Foods To Avoid

It’s just a simple fact of life – some of the foods that are the most appealing and the most mouth-watering tend to be the ones that either are not healthy or are Loaded with calories. Now, nobody’s perfect and we’re all human. There’s no sense in trying to be perfect when perfection is impossible. We all have our moments. But in general, there are many foods which we should do our best to steer clear of or at least look the other way (as much impossible, at least).

But things can get tricky. Consider this: a smoothie. Health, right? Fruit and yogurt. Where’s the harm there? The problem is that the tasty smoothie is often made with milk and/or ice cream and can be chock full of calories. How many calories? Try over 1,000 calories. That’s half a day’s recommended caloric intake in one glass. Who knew? A low-card calorie on the contrary is typically less than 270 calories. Opt for this type of smoothie if it’s available.

When we’re out shopping at the mall or even on our local busy thoroughfare, food is always staring us right in the face, beckoning us to come on over, seemingly calling our name. More times than not we come across the wonderfully juicy pretzel dog(!) This tasty treat however contains almost half of the recommended limit for fat and sodium. To be exact, it has over 600 calories, almost 30 grams of fat, and over 1,100 mg of sodium.

That being said, this snack can be a meal unto itself – as long as you consider it a meal and not a snack. In which case, no worries. Opting for the original pretzel snack with no butter and no salt will bring the caloric intake down to about 300 calories.

Grilled shrimp caprese. Shrimp are low-fat, low-calorie, and high in protein in iron. By themselves, shrimp are a very healthy food. The problem arises when they become part of a creamy pasta dish. This dish has loads of garlic butter – and loads of calories as well. This dish has 900 calories – almost one half of your daily recommended caloric intake, and 3,490 mg of sodium over one a half times the recommended daily sodium intake.

As we said at the top of this story, nobody’s perfect and we all have our moments. If we do know in advance we’ll be wanting a calorie rich dish for dinner for example, we should limit our calories throughout the day prior to indulging.
