Dating: Then & Now
Courtship & dating are as old as antiquity. But things are certainly different in today’s modern world than they were eons or even decades ago. But truth be told, every culture is certainly different and each have their own nuances. Not all parts of the world have been so quick to adapt to change.
The sexual revolution of the 1960′s and 1970′s ushered in a new era of thinking and behavior. Topics that were long-held taboos suddenly were open for discussion. A seismic shift occurred in what was regarded as acceptable behavior in terms of love, dating and sex. And things have never been the same.
Now what was once frowned upon is accepted as mainstream behavior. There was a time when a woman could never approach a man without being viewed by others a “tramp” or “floozy”. Silly how these old terms sound in today’s modern and constantly evolving lexicon. There was a time when if a man slept around it was regarded as his right and privilege, yet if a woman were to do the same she was ostracized by society.
Today, both men & women freely move in and out of relationships and it’s simply regarded as playing the field and carefully weighing one’s options. But also, too is clear that while behaviors themselves changed, much behavior that was already taking place simply began to come out of the shadows of society.
But the revolution continues, and what was once old is new again. The notion of “free love” of the original hippies seems to be returning again in certain circles. People are people. Sex and sexuality are basic precepts of human life. Insiders claim that astronauts of both NASA and the Russian space programs have even had sex in space as part of separate research projects to determine how human beings might survive years in orbit. Cosmic.
In upcoming articles on Healthy Life Network we will delve deeper into the modern day issues surrounding love, dating & relationships, and physical fitness & sexual health.
