Will Twilight Come Early This Year?

I really don’t understand the appeal of the Twilight movies. As a male in his mid twenties, I’m clearly outside of the franchise’s target demographic and unknowingly avoided years of exposure to the world of glittery, tree-climbing vampires with elaborate hairstyles. In fact, I was totally oblivious to the franchise’s existence until the second film even came out. Saying that I was shocked when I learned that Twilight: New Moon wasn’t only a sequel, but a successful series of novels would be a great understatement.

But today, I finally learned of some Twilight-related news that actually interested me.

A script for the third film in the Twilight series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse leaked to the internet today, sending the online community into frenzy. And I have absolutely no idea why. I could understand the excitement when a leaked film of X-Men Origins: Wolverine leaked to the internet last year, but at least that was an actual film.

Is the Twilight fan base really going to be willing to read an entire script just to get their vampire fix early? The film is scheduled to be released in June of this year, and I am curious as to how the leaking of the script will affect the final version of the movie.

When Wolverine leaked, the version wasn’t yet final and lacked almost all special effects. In theory, the studio could have trolled the internet and used feedback to dictate how the final version would look. But with an entire script being leaked, the studio has many more options.

I’m (slightly) interested in seeing if the movie that’s actual seen in theaters is the same as the one in this version of the script, or if last-minute tweaks will be made in order to give even the Twilight fans who take a sneak peek an entirely fresh experience in the theaters. I’m also interested to see who’s going to lose their job over this.

But really, the only thing I want to see is how many fan-made enactments of the movie are going to pop up online. At the risk of sounding like a creep, I can’t wait to see what a few ambitious teenage girls with a super 8 camera and bootlegged copy of Adobe Premiere end up doing with that script.
