3-D at Home?
When 3-D movies first came into existence in the 1950s, they were a gimmick to get people flocking to movie theaters. And their blue and red cardboard glasses did the trick. 3-D movies’ popularity fizzled out until the 1980s, when they saw a huge resurgence. The medium faded away again until recent years, when advances in technology have made 3-D visuals even more breathtaking. But this time, the 3-D movement could be here to stay as media companies are planning to bring a third dimension to in-home viewing.
Discovery, Imax and Sony have teamed up to create a 3-D television channel that would begin broadcasting in 2011. All three companies will own equal shares in the new channel, which will be distributed by Discovery Communications.

The new channel, whose name has yet to be released, is expected to broadcast a wide variety of 3-D content, including sports and other entertainment. It is expected that the channel will feature 3-D versions of Discovery’s well known nature and history programs.
But viewers may not have to wait until next year to enjoy 3-D broadcasts on their homes. ESPN recently announced that they plan to launch ESPN 3-D in June of this year. According to reports, the channel will air at least 85 live 3-D sporting events during its first year. The channel will only broadcast live events. Whether or not ESPN expects in-home 3-D viewing to have staying power is debatable, for it has only committed to the new network through June 2011.
Enjoy all the movies you want for less than $5 a month.
As 3-D technology moves from the theater into the home, this has in turn created what could be a booming 3-D glasses industry. Viewers will still need to have 3-D glasses in order to view 3-D programming in their homes, which means you could begin to see 3-D eyewear in stores very soon.
But until the 3-D craze moves into our homes, why not just enjoy a film in good old, dependable 2-D? With this special Blockbuster offer, you will be able to enjoy all the movies you want for 50% off the normal price!
